thesis book:part1 (rough draft)

the infographic maps are large so included as gatefolds.

i'm going to make three books like this one which will be packaged together as one thesis book. this is the first book, and i still need to make one more infographic to include. Also i will keep working on layout design and typography.

The lines connecting the dots inside the circle and the timeline shows at what times of the day the locations were used by people, staring from 9:00am to 9pm over period of five days. The position of the dots correspond to the actual location marked on the location map.

For period of five days at random times of the day, I made observation of areas from 14th street to 23rd street and from 6th avenue to Park avenue, including Madison Square Park and Union Square. By observing public spaces for 30 hours in total, I noticed that people like to occupy particular locations for engaging in private activities. For example, many people stopped at the same spot when speaking on the phone. Frequently, people used certain spots repeatedly to wait for something (buses), meet people, or to observe something. The points marked indicate the locations used for various private purposed, distingushed by different colors.
